Republican Governor Scott Walker has become the first sitting governor in U.S. history to survive a recall election, according to media reports based on exit polls (the Wisconsin Government Accountability Board does not offer election night results). The only two previous recall elections for governors did not end as well for the incumbents: North Dakota Governor Lynn Frazier was recalled in 1921 and California Governor Gray Davis in 2003.
Exit polls on the recalls of three Wisconsin senators (a fourth resigned rather than face a recall, leaving that seat vacant) and the lieutenant governor are not yet available.
