All four caucuses in the Arizona Legislature have elected new leaders. Republican Senator Bob Burns, (photo) chair of the appropriations committee, will now serve as Senate president. Senator Chuck Gray takes over as majority leader and Senator Pamela Gorman as majority whip. The Democrats elected Senator Jorge Luis Garcia as minority leader.
In the House, Representative Kirk Adams (photo) won out over former speaker Jim Weiers, who had served in that role for many years. According to an Arizona Republic article, Adams promised more openness and transparency in the budget process.
