Virginia Republicans picked up one seat in a race pitting two Virginia Senate incumbents against each other. A second possible victory for Republicans that would send the Senate into a 20-20 tie appears headed for a recount. Incumbent Democrat Sen. R. Edward Houck trails challenger Bryce Reeves by 86 votes with 100 percent of the vote counted. If Reeves prevails and a tie results, Republican Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling would have the deciding vote, but Virginia traditons suggest that some kind of power-sharing agreement would be necessary to manage the Senate.
