The election is roughly five weeks away. Ballots across the country are really starting to take on their final form.
As stated in NCSL's press release, the total number of ballot questions is expected to be just shy of 160. 63 of these are citizen initiatives. Believe it or not, this is not a record number. The highest total number of ballot initiatives occurred in both 1914 and 1996 with a total of 87. In 2006, the number of initiatives totaled 76, the second-highest total.
In this edition of The Buzz, we sit down with NCSL's ballot measure expert, Jennie Drage Bowser, to find out if a longer ballot can have an impact on voter turnout. We also discuss how state's initiative process plays into the ballot and what voters should know before they head to the polls on election day.
