From the Hartford Courant:
The new, 114-member House Democratic caucus picked Meriden Rep. Christopher Donovan Thursday night to be the new speaker and Rep. Denise Merrill of Mansfield to be the new majority leader.
Donovan, the current majority leader, will replace James Amann of Milford, whose term expires in January. Donovan still must be formally elected by the full 151-member chamber — including its 37 Republican members — on Jan. 7, the opening day of the next legislative session.
Less than 48 hours after retaining a veto-proof majority, Senate Democrats on Thursday re-elected their top two leaders.
Donald Williams of Brooklyn will return as Senate President Pro Tempore, and Martin Looney of New Haven will return as the Senate majority leader. The decisions were made by the new, 24-member caucus during a meeting in Hartford.
